All About Aussie Mountain Doodles
Aussie Mountain Doodles are a mix of 3 breeds: an Australian Shepherd, a Bernese Mountain Dog, & a Poodle. Their lifespan is usually 10-13 years.
It is important to note that with any crossbreed, the pups can inherit a variety of traits. Careful breeding with a focus on health, structure & temperament is incredibly important to get the best mix of the breeds. Even so, each puppy within a litter will have their own personality, strengths, & challenges.
The goal is for AMD’s to inherit their intelligence from both the Poodle & Aussie breeds, & the sweet gentle side of the Bernese Mountain Dog. These dogs generally smart, fun loving dogs. They are great companions for a family & are eager to please. If bred, raised, & socialized properly, they can make great service or therapy dogs. It is important to note that temperament testing & professional training are also needed to ensure any pup is a good candidate for a working role such as service & therapy work. Aussie Mountain Doodles need intentional mental stimulation, physical exercise & affection. It is important to socialize your puppy to a variety of people & other dogs & animals so they will be comfortable in various situations as an adult.
Aussie Mountain Doodles can be an allergy friendly breed. However, it is important to note that unless your specific puppy has been tested for the shedding & furnishing genes, you cannot know for sure if they are truly hypoallergenic. Those with severe allergies should consider a purebred hypoallergenic breed such as a Poodle.
AMD coats can be curly, wavy, or straight & come in many different colors. They need to be groomed every 8-12 weeks & should be brushed several times a week.
Aussie Mountain Doodles come in a variety of sizes from 20 to over 60 pounds. While we can estimate the size of a Aussie Mountain Doodle based off his parents, often they grow larger than expected.
AMD’s are a wonderful, affectionate, intelligent, energetic dog that would make a great addition to any family who is committed to put the time into exercising, training, & socializing them!
